Houghton Bride Spring 2016 revolved around a traveler.
Unlike the fairy tale ballgowns of most other bridal designers, Polk approached wedding style from upscale sportswear. There were more antique ivory and white embellished pieces for a modern trip down the aisle, but seeing some of the flower and fringe adorned pieces would not be out of place at Coachella. The clothing embellishments, like shells, beads, pearls, feathers, were all a part of the Gypsy nomadic theme. The designer imagined them as items a traveler might pick up in her journeys as mementos. The silhouettes and individual garments may seem easy-going, but the luxurious fabrics and finishes were meant for the big day.
Katherine Polk's contemporary fashion approach isn't her only innovations in bridal. Her past season had her creating pretty bridal looks with floral fabrics with a surprise for photographers. The fabrics actually shone a plaid pattern when taken with a flash.
While this bridal collection is about exploring the world, Houghton is a fashion label that is committed to being made in the U.S.A. What can I say? I love a designer that realizes that in the end, there's no place like home.
